Gratitude Day Ecstatic Dance!
A Fundraiser for the Trauma Healing Project
>> Thank you dancers, we raised $650 dollars for THP! <<

On Friday, November 29th we will gather at the Village School Commons for this annual tradition.
Join us for an extended evening of dance, singing, live-performance, movement exploration, being in community giving thanks and giving back. Proceeds from this dance will go towards supporting the mission of the Trauma Healing Project,

• As per tradition, local songstress and Coalessence founder,
Karly Loveling, will help to bring our voices together, eventually weaving us into our warm-up dance.

• We are oh so blessed to have Water Eye from Portland gracing us this year with her
gorgeous ethereal live-looping fluid cypher-beat lusciousness!

• Water will flow seamlessly into DJ Blisstina's set, who is thrilled to return with another annual sweet ride of high-vibe gratitude-filled goodness! We'll wind it down with another dip into the deep end with Water Eye, and landing with the voice/tone/breath and stillness, before we share a final closing circle. Don't be surprised to see some musical guests, like Benjamin Crandall on sax, who will show up along the ride of our dance wave.

PROGRAM OFFERINGS

MOVEMENT LABS
Movement Invitations & Inspirations
w/Paul Deering & Friends

Guiding movement and dance explorations provide invitations and inspirations for Somatic journeys into self, others, community and spirit. Material is drawn from Qi Gong, Contact Improvisation and other dance and holistic awareness practices.

Qi Gong is
an energy awareness and cultivation practice. in the practice observe ourselves as we follow various patterns combining movement and stillness. Emphasis is on integrating patterns of movement with breath, both the oxygenating respiratory breath centered in the lungs and the Qi (energetic) breath that saturates our whole being and  the environment around us.
Contact Improvisation is a collaborative dance form emphasizing deep listening where points of contact provide the starting points for the creative explorations of movement with stillness, breath with body rhythms, shape with momentum, balance with counterbalance, Gravity (pathways to earth), Levity (pathways to sky) and finding flow (the alchemy of recreating and sharing ourselves).

SOUND HEALING MEDITATION w/ ConStella

Damion Brook Kintz
Sara-Eleanor Yarbrough - Radiant Gong Immersions
Bob Browning, and Charlie Taylor - Sacred Life Harmonics

Sound is medicine for your whole being. Through sound, we can change the rhythms of our brain waves, our heart beat and our respiration affecting our overall physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Sound Healing uses the power of sound and vibration to restore one's body, mind and spirit to a sense of balance and harmony. Principles of Sound healing include Vibrational frequency, Resonance, Entrainment, Harmony, and Sacred Sound, which means to make sound from the heart. We will improvise sacred sounds through voice, violin, gong, singing bowls, and other ancient and modern healing instruments. These vibrations will be accompanied by the soundscape “Endless Wonder” by Entheo. Participants will be asked beforehand to set an intention - the thought/visualization we hold in our hearts - or prayer and the sacred vibrations of the meditation will serve as carriers of these intentions/prayers.

SONG WRITING AS A THERAPEUTIC PROCESS:
LIVING A CREATIVE LIFE with Katie Sontag

Through various writing exercises, improvisational exploration and other song writing tools, we will explore the art of song writing as a tool for self healing. What is it we need to hear most? How can we feel into our intuition and co-create with the muse? We will also talk about basic song structure and music theory. Knowledge of a musical instrument is welcome but not required. There will be a strong emphasis on lyrics but there could also help for instrumental communication.

SINGING HEART
with Karly Loveling
Learn songs through call and response. Sing heart opening, life-affirming songs from various cultures and traditions in circle. Many of our songs are layered in parts or sung in rounds so that even inexperienced singers can enjoy instant harmony. Experienced singers are encouraged to bring the harmonies they hear or to offer the strength of their voices to support the whole.

KIRTAN
with Laura Kemp

Join us for an evening of heart opening kirtan and bhakti yoga lead by one of Eugene’s longtime beloved musicians, Laura Kemp. The sanskrit word kirtan comes from the root kīrt which means to praise, name, call, or glorify. In this ancient practice of call and response singing which comes from India’s bhakti devotional tradition, we will join our voices in sacred song to honor the divine within and around us. Laura will give a brief instruction on the pronunciation of the sanskrit words and names we will be chanting. No previous experience with sanskrit or music needed – just come with an open heart and ready to sing!

Founder of the bands Gypsy Moon and One at Last, he has been regularly packing the floors of dance clubs in Hawaii, Australia, and all across the West Coast. Markus Johnson
Band Leader of Phos4escence fuses acoustic instruments and live electronic music together with dance to create a one of a kind experience. The live instruments used (Cunbus, Guitars, Flute, Saxaphone etc...) are mixed with analog effects and synths that take the audience on a unique journey.

Soko
The way to identify a master player is by the way they play accompaniment. Drummer, Ken Sokolov has accompanied musicians like country superstar, Ferlin Husky, folk legend Donovan and has toured with African music icon Thomas Mapfumo. He has studied and performed west African drumming as a featured soloist for over 20 years. This is where he discovered firsthand the ageless and intimate connection between dance and music. His deep respect for tradition is balanced by an interest in creating new and exciting modern fusion and his interests include tabla, Balkan and jazz rhythms. An in demand recording artist and performer he can be heard in groups like the Klezmonauts, Chibuku, Surfonics, Kef, Beatcrunchers, Phos4essence and various local sessions. Not only that, he is also a singer and adept on stringed instruments such as fiddle, guitar and mandolin. "I started drumset around age 7 and strings around 11. I brought myself up on blues and rock early on yet, soon simultaneously found outlets in world folk traditions and more avant-garde jazz concepts. Recently I've acquired a kamaln'goni (A west African harp) and am finishing an album of some traditional grooves and original compositions."

Karly Loveling

Karly Loveling has a passion for bringing songs to community... especially to people who think they "can't sing" or " can't hold a tune." She also loves singing with people who harmonize beautifully. And so, she leads the Hummingbirds Girls Choir for 8-12 year old girls and Singing Heart for all ages and levels of singers. She can be found singing in saunas, hotsprings, and grocery stores, as well as at gatherings such as Re-radical Village Camp, Network for New Culture's Summer Camp, and Singing Alive. She has the pleasure of singing with Temple Under the Stars and occasionally with other bands and local singer-songwriters. And, while it has been many years since she has danced and so you may not know her it all, it just so happens that she is one of the co-founders of Coalessence.

Sol Birds

(Olive Delsol, Jason Bailey, Kyle Conrad Baker)

The Sol Birds bring mythical creatures to life with original music played on Hang, Hammered Dulcimer and Cello. There is a tangible space created by the mesmerizing music inspired by Gamelan and Raga music of Bali and India. Their performance is an enthralling adventure as well as an invocation to the potential for greatness in every soul.

Olive Delsol, Cello and Voice
Olive Delsol started life at a very young age in the town of her birth. She has since concocted her own blend of mythological herbs and spices to season the stereoscopic soul stew that is her music. She commands a powerful voice that is just as comfortable belting out a jazz ballad as telling stories or spitting rhymes, a host of instruments including accordion, cello, and piano, and a soul that pans gold nuggets from the crushed rock of our culture. She has written music for 8 full-length albums, squeezed her bellows with the likes of Aeon Now, cut her bow with the Bohemian Dub Orchestra, and carried her engaging and “sexy/weird” solo stage show across the oceans and back.

Jason Bailey, Hammered Dulcimer
Jason brings a burning musical passion and incredible attention to detail to his projects.
Native to Eugene Oregon, Jason has experienced a wide exposure to culture and music that has developed into a strong interest in all genres of music. This no-music-left-behind approach to his enjoyment of music helps him connect other musicians on a close personal level.

Brook is a violinist who performs with several Eugene-based bands including Temple Under the Stars, Creek & Fox, and A-Morpheus Collective. He spent several months studying classical Indian violin in Benares, India in 2016 and now performs Kirtan with local musicians. His spiritual practice includes expressing the divinity within through music, composed and improvised, using violin and voice. He is extremely grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with the following Sound Healing Practitioners.

Sara-Eleanor Yarbrough - Radiant Gong Immersions
Sarais a world-traveling Sound Healing Practitioner, Raw Foods Instructor, and Holistic Health Counselor. Her sound meditations marry the arts of shamanic clearing, mysticism, yoga, breathwork, poetry, and improvisational music with ancient and modern healing instruments. She collaborates whit musicians, artists, sound masters, and chefs in an effort to continuously raise the vibration around the globe.

Bob Browning and Charlotte Taylor - Sacred Life Harmonics
In balanced expression of the divine masculine and feminine energies, we use channeled songs combined with toning, overtoning, tuning forks, Reiki, a vibroacoustic table, rife frequencies, meditative recordings, aromatherapy, crystals, shamanic practices, prayer and languages of light to promote physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. We intuitively resonate with and clear the biofield of the individual or group, and bring into harmony the areas of distress or disease. We access the field of the great mystery – the unconscious field of love which holds all life in its nurturing web. It is this realm that comes alive in our sessions, and we are never without awe and reverence to the beauty that is revealed as we enter this sacred space. Truly something to experience, we offer ourselves in partnership and service to the unfolding miracle of life in harmony and love.

Movement Lab
Jessie McQuinston and Marie Terrill will be leading the movement lab from 7-8 We will be transitioning from stillness, continuing to be present, connecting to our breath and from there, growing our movements, trying on patterns and body states, bringing in the influences of the environment and people around us and exploring different ways to connect with ourselves and each other.
Material is drawn from Contact Improv and Western partner dance forms. Presentation will be spontaneous in response to the people and the energy in the room. We call it a lab rather than a class because we encourage people to interact with the material. Be inventive, ask questions, somatically and verbally, and in turn help to guide the direction of our exploration.

                                         POTLUCK FOOD
We are feeding each other this weekend so bring food that you will love to share! We have been doing this for years and it works our great!

There are 8 meals all together to be a part of: Friday Dinner through Monday Breakfast. (or less if you’re not staying the whole time). Please bring a dish or two (5 or more servings) for each meal that you plan to be at the retreat. The closest food shopping is about 20 miles out so lets all make this work!

THE KITCHEN
There is a big beautiful commercial kitchen next to the main hall that has tons of refrigerator space and a walk in freezer.
It is well stocked with dishes for many more people than we are, and utensils too.

Please - no food in the rooms, only in the main lodge (it's a forest and there are critters)

KITCHEN USE
Kitchen Facilitators will be helping to answer questions and keep the kitchen running smoothly. Their main job is to run the industrial dish washer. This means they are the only ones to operate the machinery. All of us will be rinsing our personal and communal dishes and placing them in the loading trays. All of us will be helping to keep the kitchen clean and organized.
Thanks!

RECYCLING AND COMPOST
We will be providing lots of receptacles for recycling but not for garbage. In order to keep costs down and to encourage recycling we are asking everyone to participate.

Let's imagine and implement a garbage free event (if not world). If you generate garbage that cannot be recycled, please pack it out. Last retreat we were left with two five gallon containers of actual garbage. Let's beat that!

Compost will be collected in the kitchen and will make some worms very happy.
If you would like to be a lucky recipient of said compost please bring buckets, thanks.
